I found these 4 photos at my local antique market. I couldn’t pick just one and leave the rest – I had to keep them together cause they are all of one family: the Kretzschmers.
They show father Max Kretzschmer in 1894:
Parents Max Kretzschmer and Magdalene née Wagner with their children Alfred and Marianne on March 4, 1903 in Berlin:
Children Alfred (5 years old) and Marianne (1 ½ years old) in Berlin:
And father Max Kretzschmer with children Alfred and Marianne in Berlin:
I suppose the photos originally belonged to Alfred’s descendant. It says “my father” in brackets:
The father of the children, Johann Georg Hermann Max Kretzschmer was born on May 24, 1848, in Berlin. He was a banker. He married the children’s mother Margarete Luise Emilie Magdalena Wagner on May 21, 1892 in Berlin. Max was a late bloomer, he was 42 years old at the time, and 14 years older than his wife. He died in 1914, when his children Alfred and Marianne were 22 and 19 years old.
The children's mother Magdalena née Wagner had been born on May 20, 1862 in West Prussia to parents Emil and Laura Wagner.
Johann Georg Emil Alfred Kretzschmer was born on March 4, 1892 in Berlin. On January 12, 1918, he married Margaretha Frieda Betty Radig in Heidelberg. Three children were born to the couple:
- Liselotte Magdalena Alice Donath née Kretzschmer (1919-1970)
- Johann Ernst Kretzschmer (1921-?)
- Anneliese Jahn née Kretzschmer (1923-1976)
Alfred passed away in 1966, and his wife Margaretha in 1975. There is a photo of him and Margaretha in their later years shared on MyHeritage. I love a line-up in time of the same face and am always amazed how time changes so much and yet so little in our facial features!
Laura Helene Marianne Kretzschmer was born on August 6, 1895 in Berlin. And that’s about all I can tell you. She vanishes from the records, so I assumed the worst. But then I discovered a MyHeritage family tree for her brother Alfred and I recognised her in their wedding photo. So in 1918 she was definitely alive and well. But I find nothing else on her. She might have married and changed her surname. I've borrowed the photo from the MyHeritage family tree (Marianne is standing 2nd from left):
There are several family trees built for this family on Geneanet, Ancestry and MyHeritage. I hope to make contact with the family and return the photos to them.
